Welcome to Dillon Views!
The city of Dillon is located in Summit County, Colorado. It was
first incorporated as a town in 1883, but has
moved its location three times. The original
Dillon, that was started as a stagecoach stop,
made the move the first time to be close to
the railroad. Dillon moved a second time to
build itself between the Snake River, the Blue
River, and the Ten Mile River. Dillon made a
third and final move because of the completion
of the Dillon Reservoir around 1960. The
filling waters of the reservoir would cover
the town as it existed then. The town of
Dillon now sits along the picturesque
shoreline of the reservoir. It is ensconced in
a lovely valley between the water and the
surrounding mountains. With the Keystone and Breckenridge ski resorts close
by, Dillon makes a comfortable and economical
destination for families who don’t want to
stay at the pricier ski resort properties. The
town of Frisco, the Copper Mountain Ski Resort, and
Vail are just a few miles west
on Interstate-70. With the outlet shops at
Silverthorne minutes away, Dillon is in the
core of Summit County. It sits at an elevation
of 9,111 feet. The town of Dillon is run under
the municipal code of Home Rule. Home Rule
allows the city the right to regulate local
matters without interference from the state.
The Dillon Reservoir is part of the Denver Water System. The Denver Water System owns and controls the lake water. The earthen dam was finished in the early 1960’s and provides over 26 miles of shoreline for recreational use. Stream and lake fishing for trout is a summer activity while ice fishing is allowed during the winter months. Both Frisco, Colorado and the town of Dillon have operating marinas on Lake Dillon. The Dillon Marina, at over 9,000 feet in elevation, is the location of the Dillon Yacht Club. This yacht club is one of the highest in the United States. Lake Dillon provides opportunities for boating, campsites for trailers and tents, hiking, picnic sites, biking on miles ofpaved trails, fishing, and cross-country skiing. A highlight of the 4th of July in Summit County is the fireworks display viewed from Dillon that explodes high above the waters of the lake!
